New Zealand health survey - adults

The atlas collects together adult data from the New Zealand health surveys. The surveys provide information on the physical and mental health and wellbeing of New Zealanders. Both crude rates and age standardised rates have been taken directly from the survey, with all statistical analysis conducted by the New Zealand Ministry of Health. The data includes confidence intervals – shown as grey lines on the bar graph.

Crude rates (CR) represent the proportion of people in a population who have been diagnosed with the specified condition each year. It illustrates the actual burden of disease within a population and can be used to compare groups with the same age distribution.

Age-standardised rates (ASR) control for different age structures in two or more population groups to enable comparisons to be made.

District Health Boards

District health boards (DHBs) are responsible for providing or funding the provision of health services in their district. There are currently 20 DHB's in New Zealand.
