Notifiable diseases:

This atlas provides data on a selection of communicable diseases which are legally required to be notified to the Medical Officer of Health. Data was provided by the Institute of Environmental Science and Research (ESR) who are responsible for collection of notifications. Crude rates only are provided.

Crude rates (CR) represent the proportion of people in a population who have been diagnosed with the specified condition each year. It illustrates the actual burden of disease within a population and can be used to compare groups with the same age distribution.

District Health Boards

District health boards (DHBs) are responsible for providing or funding the provision of health services in their district. There are currently 20 DHB's in New Zealand.

Territorial Authority

A territorial authority (TA) is a city or district council area. There are currently 67 territorial authorities in New Zealand consisting of 12 city councils, 53 district councils, Auckland Council and Chatham Islands Council.
