Census population pyramids

Census population pyramids provide an overview of the changing population structure in an area over time. The population is divided, by gender, into five year age bands from ≤ 5 years to ≥ 85 years.

District Health Boards

District health boards (DHBs) are responsible for providing or funding the provision of health services in their district. There are currently 20 DHB's in New Zealand.

Territorial Authority

A territorial authority (TA) is a city or district council area. There are currently 67 territorial authorities in New Zealand consisting of 12 city councils, 53 district councils, Auckland Council and Chatham Islands Council.

Regional Council

Regional council boundaries are required to conform, as far as possible, to one or more water catchments. Regional councils cover every territorial authority in New Zealand with the exception of Chatham Islands Territory. The seaward boundary of the regions is the twelve mile (19.3km) New Zealand territorial limit. There are currently 16 regional councils in New Zealand
